Installing with the Debian-Installer

For official installation media and information for Debian GNU/Linux 3.1r0 (sarge), see the sarge page.

If you'd like something newer to help us test a future release of the installer, or because of hardware problems or other issues, try one of these daily built images:

Other builds are available besides those listed above. For a complete description of available Debian-Installer builds, see this page.

After using the Debian-Installer, please send us an installation report using the template, even if there weren't any problems.

If you read only one document before installing, read our Installation Howto, a quick walkthrough of the installation process. Other useful documentation includes:

Contacting us

The debian-boot mailing list is the main forum for discussion and work on Debian-Installer.

We also have an IRC channel, #debian-boot on irc.debian.org. This channel is used mainly for development, but occasionally for support. If you do not receive a response, try the mailing list instead; developers will often be hacking or sleeping.

Helping us

We need experienced programmers, as well as translators, and documentation writers to help continuing development of the Debian-Installer.

Another way to help is to test the Debian-Installer on your hardware, especially if you have access to non Intel computers. Follow the documentation listed above. We also welcome feedback on the documentation itself.
